Best Social Media Marketing Campaign of 2019: Everything you need to learn
Marketing is the essence of any business and without it, no business can survive for long. As we have evolved,
our ways of marketing have evolved too. Earlier, marketing used to be done
via radio advertisement, roadside banner displays and more. Even
today the traditional ways do exist but it isn’t enough anymore. Today,
there are a number of ways to grow your business like Search Engine
Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing
and more. However, today we are going to talk about Social Media Marketing and
discuss the best Social Media Campaign of the year 2019 and why.
You
must have read about businesses prospering just by targeting Social Media
channels but the year 2019 was not about any business’ Social Media campaign,
it was about a political party. Yes, you guessed it right !!!! It’s none other
than the Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP)
that took the Social Media by storm and landed themselves a complete sweep over
other political parties in the 2019 Indian General Elections. Now
let's get into a more detailed discussion as to how BJP used Social Media to
remain in power for another 5 years.
Being
in power, BJP had easy access to data. And as quoted by W. Edwards Deming,
"Without data you're just another person with an opinion", BJP proved
it how in this digital world, data can be used to win great wars.
BJP's
social media campaign was a well-planned and well-executed one. It perfectly
executed the AIDA (Attention, Intent,
Desire, and Action) marketing strategy to win the 2019 Elections. All the Attention had already started during
the 2014 Modi wave. Then back in
September last year, on Prime Minister’s birthday, the campaign for 2019
Elections started with the #ModiOnceMore trending. It aimed towards targeting social
media channels. Vijay Chada, an IT professional from Bengaluru, even left his
job for the success of the campaign. And as many of you must already know
that PM Narendra Modi is the second most followed politician on Twitter after
US President Donald Trump, the social media marketing for 2019 Indian
General Elections began. Even PM Modi's engagement on social media with
party co-workers, common people, and others attracted people which helped BJP
in the long run.
PM
Modi very-well knew that the 2019 Indian General Elections will be
a digital war and BJP left no stone unturned as they spent almost Rs 27 crore
in ads on various social media platforms including Youtube. BJP spent Rs 4
crore alone on Facebook marketing.
With
easy access to data, BJP's marketing team executed the campaign perfectly,
covering all the major aspects of social media marketing which included:
- Setting realistic social
marketing goals
- Knowing your audience
- Analyzing the competition
- Creating engaging content
- And most importantly,
timeliness was the top priority
Talking
about facts and figures, the top 20 pages during the months of February to
April 2019 that spent the most on Ads over various social platforms, Congress
ranked for only the official page. But for BJP, it was almost 7 pages that made
it to the top 20. Such was the impact of BJP's marketing campaign for 2019
Elections.
#ModiOnceMore
was just the start of one of the finest political victories using social media
campaigning. A slew of hashtags went trending, following the initial trend set
up in September 2018. For me personally, the #5yearchallenge which went viral on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram was the best ever retargeting
strategy, aimed at people who had lost faith and hope in BJP. People who were
having second thoughts about bringing BJP back to power were once again in
dilemma.
It
was all into the last month of the election when #PhirEkBaarModi did the remaining job perfectly. Congress had its
roots are shaken by then and even though they tried to retaliate with the #MainBhiChowkidar digital campaign for
which they hired 3 agencies, namely, DesignBoxed, Niksun, and Silver Push to
execute social media marketing but, BJP already had the stronghold on all
social media platforms by then.
BJP's
marketing was so strong that it even influenced the normal meme pages on social
media as they were seen getting involved in Indian Politics for the first time.
BJP IT cell was so active that it even took to Quora to clear out any doubts
people had over BJP coming to power again. Every social media channel was about
blazing arguments and general discussions with BJP supporters undoubtedly
having the upper hand.
Finally,
concluding my article, I would say that the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 was the biggest ‘Social Media Election’
and BJP's campaign was the biggest and
the best social media marketing campaign of the year 2019. Any experienced
marketer or even a fresher who is trying to get into the field of Social Media
Marketing should closely study BJP's 2019 General Elections and they will end
up learning how exactly to execute any social media campaign smoothly.
